Here at the Arenui, we have built a stunning wooden vessel that offers a taste of the local culture (a traditional Indonesian Phinisi) but fitted it with all the modern conveniences of a luxury hotel. We designed spacious boutique cabins that once again invite our guests to enjoy the country they’re visiting (local handicrafts and inspirations).

We added a luxury restaurant serving international and local cuisine (evenings are waiter served a-la carte) and added both an outdoor sky restaurant and a top-deck sky lounge for massages, sunbathing, relaxing and enjoying the island views.

Then we trained up an enthusiastic local crew, including two highly sought-after chefs and four eagle-eyed dive guides and four western cruise directors. With a total of 24 team members, our 16 guests are guaranteed a truly personalized service.

  • Borneo, Indonesia, one of the hidden gems of the diving world, offers divers great diversity.  The island of Borneo, shared by Brunei, Malaysia, and Indonesia, is the third-largest in the world and offers amazing marine life.

The island of Sangalaki, part of the Derawan Archipelago, is famous for its large gatherings of manta rays, and is also a breeding ground for green turtles, and an Indonesian Marine Park. If we are lucky we might encounter whale sharks, drawn by schools of anchovies caught by local fishing boats that use lights to attract them at night.

East Borneo is lined with a string of small islands and is home to two large atolls and an island with a landlocked lake fringed by mangroves, where four species of stingless jellyfish coexist. In addition our diving sites will include walls, slopes, and sandy plateaus decorated with huge barrel sponges, large sea fans, and thriving hard coral gardens.

We hope our luck will provide us with encounters with the “big five”: thresher sharks, hammerheads, grey reef sharks, manta rays, and whale sharks. Borneo also offers nesting turtles, huge schools of jacks and barracudas patrolling the waters. While at Kakaban Island we'll have a unique experience—swimming in a saltwater lake filled with stingless jellyfish—and exploring the island’s surrounding walls. In the shallow waters of Samama, we'll be looking for macro life.

Our trip is planned during the calm seas and clear skies season with typically little to no rain.
